These days, there’s another factor diverting our attention from our work: the effects of the coronavirus outbreak. Many employees are required to either “shelter in place” or stay home as much as possible, and as many as 18% of working people already report having been let go or had their hours reduced, according to a recent poll of 835 adults.
There are ways to remain focused even when presented with myriad distractions. Here are four tips to stay productive.
1. Write down what you want to get done
“In the morning, first thing you do is you write down the objectives that you want to get done,” says Milo Sindell, leadership coach at Skyline Group International. This helps “keep a person focused,” he says.
In the workplace performance book “Sink or Swim,” co-written by Sindell and his wife, Thuy Sindell, they suggest keeping two task lists to help prioritize: a general task list, which features items that need to be done that day, and a rolling task list, which features items that are not urgent and can be done later in the week. MAR 13, 2020 - SKYLINE GROUP'S PRINCIPALS FEATURED ON CNBC ACORNS
More people than ever are working outside of a traditional office setting. Over the past five years, remote work has increased 44%, according to a 2020 FlexJobs analysis. If you’re among the rising number of people logging hours from their living rooms, kitchens, or garages, either permanently or as a temporary measure due to the coronavirus pandemic, making the switch to working from home can be a challenge. Your house might be full of distractions, and it’s easy to get restless when you’re pounding away at your keyboard all alone.

Skyline's scalable leadership technology C4X was the first-of-its-kind solution when it launched in 2012, and it has evolved every year. We are excited to continue this evolution with the integration of machine learning into the C4X platform. For leaders, machine learning will provide a greater curated experience, increasing program value and results. For companies investing in coaching for their employees, machine learning will expand the data and reporting insights available.
Furthermore, machine learning will advance C4X's personalized email micro-learning capabilities, ensuring curated, actionable content when and where it's needed.
As part of the development of this capability, an extensive analysis of the system (almost a thousand pages of content and hundreds of supporting resources) explored the following questions:
What data are captured for creating learning goals of the leaders?
How is content connected to learning goals?
How is the training program organized?
What are the key interactions between coach and leader?
What are the most important actions the system can take that will provide greatest value to the leader?
An algorithm was developed to evaluate relevance of a resource with respect to a user profile, coaching objectives, and program interaction. This algorithm employs AI techniques like collaborative filtering, user profile analysis, and program analysis.
"We are very excited to provide companies and their employees with powerful coaching solutions. This continued evolution of our C4X platform aligns directly with our belief and mission of 'Better Leaders / Better World'—that the world becomes a better place through the influence and impact of better leaders," shares Milo Sindell, head of Skyline's technology development.
Leadership coaching continues to grow beyond an estimated $2 billion-sized industry. As companies continue to invest in leadership coaching, the need to manage and measure coaching's impact is critical. Continuing SkylineG's mission to provide the most comprehensive and measurable leadership coaching programs, SkylineG's scalable leadership coaching technology, C4X, now makes it possible for companies to manage coaching programs end-to-end, track the investment they make in leadership coaching, and for the first time, measure impact.
"Based on best practices from our Coaching Scaled (CS) programs, we have brought to the world of Executive Coaching the ability to not only better track coaching engagements, but to also measure skill development and impact to organizations.

OCT 14, 2018 - SKYLINEG IS PROUD TO BE A SPONSOR OF THE HRPS 2018 STRATEGIC HR FORUM
We are living in a world where change is the norm. Disruption is no longer a novelty, it is way of life, inside and outside of work. The forces that drive the intense disruption create complexity that challenges even the most agile organizations. To thrive, organizations must find new ways to balance the waves of change and innovation to create coherence.
In an intimate environment among influential leaders, participants will benefit from close networking with peers, and from the presentations and sessions that offer unsurpassed dialogue and discussion with speakers. It is a place where such interaction and Socratic questioning is applied to a full range of potential futures and solutions.
At the Strategic HR Forum: Leading Through Disruption, the focus and theme will be the critical role HR leaders play in creating a competitive advantage by finding value within the disruptive layers of the business environment.
Have leadership development programs have been failing us or is it the active participants? The major problem in most organizations is the way we identify and develop high potentials and leaders – turns out we’re either using the wrong criteria or not providing the right resources like coaching and a continuing learning process for leaders.
The talent that makes someone successful in their field is a different talent than what makes someone a great manager. New leadership personality criteria enables us to measure and evaluate candidates more effectively, giving us a new perspective into the true DNA makeup of leadership. This means the workforce also has to change its old ways of thinking about its sense of entitlement to leadership positions. This is a new game!
Join us at the HCI Learning & Leadership Development Conference to get strategies you can use right now to identify and develop the managers who will drive the engagement, collaboration, and innovation that are essential to the success of your organization.

Their online learning was then customized to allow participants to focus, with the support of their coach, on moving their selected competencies/goals from a foundational level to a sustainable transformational level of development.”
“Those who have participated in the Accelerate Leadership Development Program coaching program reported that their self-awareness of their leadership behaviors greatly increased and that they feel more confident about what they need to do to continue to develop as leaders. “ said, Mike Calamari, Global Head of Talent Management, MSCI. “ The program culminated with a summit in New York City this fall where participants came together to engage our Executive Team on ideas to tackle some of our most important strategic challenges. While women make up 53 percent of entry-level employees, there’s a serious lack of women leaders -- a 2015 analysis published in the Journal of Applied Psychology found that women account for just 24 percent of senior vice presidents and 19 percent of c-suite executives.
“Despite this statistic and others that demonstrate the divide between male and female leaders, the current conversation on gender in leadership is at a standstill. Professionals and employers alike recognize there’s a problem, but can’t seem to move forward to a solution. Traditional leadership development addresses the problem by telling women to become more masculine and men to act less like jerks -- but that approach isn’t working,” states Thuy Sindell, President of Skyline Group’s coaching division.
Sindell continues, “Leadership development fails women because it takes an all or nothing approach, but the key is balance.”
C4W is the only leadership solution tailored for current and emerging women leaders. C4W guides each leader to identify and develop their most important leadership skills with a gender-balanced perspective.
C4W is designed to help current and emerging women leaders to focus on the skills most important to increasing women’s effectiveness in the workplace. This is achieved through:
1. Guiding participants to assess and identify their most important development opportunities.
2. An tailored online multimedia program that provides weekly direction, interactive content, and tools.
3. One-on-one coaching to reinforce learning, bring online content to life, and support the unique development needs of each leader.
4. Metrics that track program and participant results.

HCI has developed hundreds of events over the years; some of the factors we look at in programming our conferences include trends, market conditions, pain points and the rate of change in our industry. In the past there were times when the industry became quiet, (you remember), and the challenge was to keep things fresh year after year. Those days are gone. Forever. Suddenly we find ourselves in the midst of a whirlwind of change where everything we were taught, everything we’ve thought, everything we’ve done in the past is no longer stable, reliable, or relevant.
One thing is certain, in disruptive times organizations are now dependent on new processes and models of learning and leadership development to innovate and grow.

JUN 28, 2016 - THUY SINDELL TO PRESENT AT IMPACT THE BUSINESS OF HR
The 22nd Annual AZ SHRM State Conference provides HR & Business Leaders with the opportunity to learn and grow their strategic partnerships to drive business results. It is the largest HR Conference in the state and increasingly draws attendees from neighboring states as well. With a recent historical average of 1200 attendees, the AZ SHRM Annual State Conference is the 8th largest SHRM conference in the nation and is open to all HR professionals & business leaders looking for dynamic programming that can help them grow in their roles as well as assist with earning recertification credits. The 2016 conference theme is "Impact: The Business of HR."
Among 28 leadership competencies studied, men and women agreed that there is a significant and recognizable gender continuum on 27 of them. For each skill, there is a feminine and masculine expression, and which one leaders use in different situations impacts how effective they are and how they are viewed by their peers.
While masculine and feminine expressions of leadership qualities are different, one isn’t necessarily better than the other. Respondents rated more than 70 percent of leadership competencies, both masculine and feminine expressions, as equally effective. Additional highlights from the survey include:
Professionals have a significantly lower perception of leadership effectiveness when women express the masculine behavior in 57 percent of the competencies measured.
Only women rate other women as less effective when they express the masculine version of 43 percent of the competencies.
Men were perceived as less effective when expressing the feminine approach in just 39 percent of competencies.
Both men and women agree that the feminine expression of emotional control -- acknowledging emotions and appropriately expressing them -- is more than 40 percent more effective than the masculine version -- ignoring emotions and holding them in.
“We have spent a lot of time developing feminine qualities in our male leaders, but we have ignored developing masculine traits in female leaders,” said Thuy Sindell, founder and managing partner at Skyline Group. “So when we see female leaders express traits associated with males, we tend to be highly critical and push her back toward the feminine expression -- and this pushback can be even stronger among other women.
“But what we really need are balanced leaders. Both men and women need to possess masculine and feminine traits and use them appropriately to be highly effective leaders. Women who typically take a more masculine approach could be more effective by adopting more feminine behaviors, and vice versa.”

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Skyline Group International today released a new white paper, “Developing Leaders in the 21st Century: Outdated Methodology is Giving Way to Technology-Enabled Solutions,” which details the shortcomings of old-school leadership coaching approaches.
Skyline Group releases white paper detailing shortcomings of old-school leadership coaching approaches
Tweet this
Industry experts have identified several shortcomings of existing coaching programs, including the failure to address the needs of mid-level leaders; poorly designed programs that don’t address the coaching expectations of today’s workforce that consists of millions of Millennials, Gen Xers and Gen Zs; a growing gap between learning and actually leading under real-world conditions; inadequate metrics for assessing the impact of leadership development programs; and a lack of scalability that makes it hard to provide customized and rapid coaching to large teams under fast-changing market conditions.
Responding to these concerns, Skyline Group International has created C4X | Coaching for Excellence, a first-of its-kind technology-driven leadership development solution that is cost-efficient, scalable and fully customizable to meet the needs of today’s fast-moving organizations.
“Skyline Group’s C4X | Coaching for Excellence solution is specifically designed to combine the key benefits of tried-and-true 1:1 coaching with a technology-driven platform to make leadership coaching scalable and measurable,” said Thuy Sindell, Ph.D., Founder and Managing Partner of Skyline Group. She added, “C4X leverages technology to quickly scale leadership development coaching, making it more efficient, measureable and dramatically more cost-effective than traditional coaching methods.”
The white paper, which is available on the Skyline Group web site (http://skylineg.com/resourcespotlight), details several pressing issues facing old-school coaching methods, including:
One-size-fits-all approaches: According to a recent study by McKinsey, Why leadership-development programs fail, “Too many training initiatives rest on the assumption that one size fits all and that the same group of skills or style of leadership is appropriate regardless of strategy, organizational culture, or CEO mandate.”
Failing to support mid-level leaders (aka “the barbell approach”): According to the authors of Danger in the Middle: Why Midlevel Managers Aren’t Ready to Lead, from Harvard Business Publishing, “Many companies recognize that they need to do a better job on middle management training. An April 2012 Harvard Business Publishing survey found that only 28 percent of organizations felt their development programs had evolved to match the changing needs of middle managers. This ‘barbell’ approach—heavy on the ends, light in the middle—has exacted a heavy price in terms of underperforming and demoralized middle managers who lack the networking, planning and team-building skills necessary to excel in the flat organizational structures that are so prevalent today.”
Difficulty measuring the impact of leadership coaching: “Companies still rely mostly on self-reported satisfaction with the program and follow-up 360 assessments to gauge the value of their investment,” according to a McKinsey Global Survey. “A third of respondents don’t know the return on their companies’ training investment.”
“C4X | Coaching for Excellence fills a void in the marketplace because current leadership development coaching solutions are old school and out-of-touch with today’s organizations and next-gen leaders,” said Stacy Shamberger, EVP of Business Development and Sales Operations at Skyline Group. She added, “We have completely modernized the experience for both leaders and HR executives by creating an intuitive and user-friendly interface, a multimedia learning experience, and a real-time dashboard of team progress reports, drill-down data and graphic views.”

“C4X is specifically designed to take the key benefits of tried-and-true coaching methods and make them scalable and adjustable on a technology platform,” said Thuy Sindell, Ph.D., Founder and Managing Partner of Skyline Group. She added, “C4X leverages technology to quickly scale leadership development coaching, making it more efficient, measurable and dramatically more cost-effective than traditional coaching methods.”
By moving traditional leadership development coaching to C4X, organizations can save up to 75 percent on the cost of coaching compared to traditional methods. That makes it possible to provide much-needed coaching to mid-level and high-potential leaders, in addition to senior leaders.
“C4X addresses the fast pace and changing dynamics of today’s large organizations,” explained Milo Sindell, Managing Partner at Skyline and President of C4X. “Because it scales to coach hundreds of leaders throughout your organization simultaneously, C4X helps companies quickly adjust to new strategies and changing market conditions.”
Dozens of forward-thinking organizations have deployed C4X to improve the performance of hundreds of leaders, contributing measurable results including increased productivity, as well as greater revenues and better profit margins.
“The overall quality of Skyline’s C4X program is excellent, the tools are great and the coaches have been very well received by our leaders. In a short period of time, C4X has made it possible for us to coach more than 150 leaders across Medidata offices worldwide in an efficient, cost-effective manner and to see a substantial return on our investment,” said Eileen Schloss, EVP of Human Resources at Medidata, a New York-based technology company and the leading global provider of cloud-based solutions for clinical research through its cutting-edge SaaS platform.
How C4X | Coaching For Excellence Works
C4X starts with a novel online 360 assessment that makes it easy for evaluators to provide meaningful input quickly and thoroughly at anytime and on any device. The leader then works with their manager and coach to define their development goals based on the 360 and the organization’s needs.
Over the course of the 16-week program, the leader meets with their Skyline Group coach and works independently on their leadership skills on their desktop or mobile device, learning key concepts and best practices from rich supporting materials housed on the C4X platform including videos, white papers and articles.
Simultaneously, HR managers can monitor the progress of the leaders being coached via C4X’s real-time dashboard, which provides team progress reports, drill-down data and graphic views, as well as the ability to track the progress of specific leaders.

Employee engagement has been front and center in the world of human resources for some time now. What we haven’t been talking about is leader engagement and, more specifically, leader disengagement. What matters most to leaders and other high-potentials? What is the business impact of leader disengagement in the workplace?
This session will share the results and insights of new research conducted by the Organizational Intelligence Institute — a Skyline Group company — on the hidden drivers of leader disengagement. We will also share the business impact as well as some strategies and solutions for addressing leader disengagement in the workplace.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (February 6, 2015) – In a recent report published by The Economist, 4 in 5 senior leaders consider employee engagement as a critical risk factor for business. However, the report also indicated that only 1 in 10 senior leaders are highly engaged and willing to go the extra mile for their organizations.
Such findings strongly suggest that the writing is on the wall as only engaged leaders can maximize employee engagement at all levels. After all, leaders have a privileged role in designing and ratifying the organizational policies and practices and engaging others which in turn has a cascading effect throughout the organization. Yet, organizations tend to employ a "one-size-fits-all' approach when it comes to maximizing employee engagement and performance.
The Organizational Intelligence Institute (OII) - a Skyline Group company conducted research to uncover the underlying drivers of leader engagement by select workforce segments – including leaders, high-potentials, and those with senior leadership aspirations (VP and above) as well as high ambition and achievement orientation.
Dr. Salvatore Falletta, EVP and Managing Director for the Organizational Intelligence Institute shares that “it’s quite fashionable and arguably a self-serving notion for the HR industry to contend that the primary drivers of employee engagement are all about the relationship with one’s immediate manager, co-worker quality, employee learning and development opportunities, and the like. While these usual suspects have a significant impact on engagement as a whole, they tend to miss the mark for critical workforce segments.”
This new research elucidates the specific variables that affect leader engagement and the consequences associated with leader disengagement. It may be that the drivers of leader engagement and/or disengagement are not as straightforward as previously thought. This research can help companies begin to understand what matters most to high-potentials and aspiring leaders. As a result, companies are better able to make smarter human capital investments to engage and motivate their current and future leaders.

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- New employee turnover can run as high as 70%.* 80% of new employee performance objectives fail to be achieved. * The result of this unwanted turnover and unrealized performance is estimated to be in the billions of dollars.
Skyline Group International has created Coaching for On-boarding (C4O) a new and powerful system to increase new employee retention and productivity.
"We are excited that Skyline Group can provide companies the most unique and powerful way to engage new hires. C4O is the only new employee on-boarding system that combines a 24/7 anywhere at anytime online solution with the impact of a real live leadership Coach. Companies spend millions of dollars on finding and hiring the right people but most fail when it comes to maximizing the productivity and retention of their new hires. The right way to bring new employees on board is through a holistic system that guides new hires over the course of weeks, provides actionable guidance that can be immediately applied, and is customized to their specific needs. Imagine all of this plus a real leadership coach to help new hires through this most critical time – that's C4O," States Milo Sindell, President of Skyline Group.
C4O is the latest addition to Skyline Group's Coaching for Excellence (C4X) suite of scalable coaching solutions. C4X is the only employee performance solution that combines the scalability, metrics, anywhere / anytime access of technology combined with the impact of a real 1:1 coach. SAN FRANCISCO, CA (September 12, 2014) – It is well researched that employees who are not engaged costs companies hundreds of millions of dollars per year. What is not well understood is the broader impact disengaged leaders have upon employee engagement as well as company performance. Even more troubling is lack of research and insights on the primary factors that enable or inhibit leader engagement.
Salvatore Falletta, Executive Vice President and Managing Director for the Organizational Intelligence Institute, shares that "When it comes to increasing employee engagement levels, more often than not – organizations tend to employ a one-size-fits-all approach, yet the primary drivers of engagement (e.g., relationship with the direct manager, rewards and recognition, growth and development, opportunities for advancement and promotion) are likely to differ by various workforce segments (e.g., executives, aspiring senior leaders, mid-level managers, and front-line employees) and other variables. What we hope to uncover from this research are the real factors that drive leader engagement and just maybe, if we’re lucky, some of the hidden motives and aspirations of leaders. The value proposition for those currently in leadership roles or emerging leaders who aspire to lead people and organizations are likely to be significantly different.”
The Organizational Intelligence Institute (www.oi-institute.com) will be launching a research survey on October 6th 2014 to gain insight into the factors that drive leader engagement and how these drivers of engagement differ by job level, role, function, generational cohort, geography, and senior leadership aspirations (i.e., those who aspire to be C-level executive leaders).

MAR 17, 2014 - THE SIMPLE SECRET TO DEEP AND MEANINGFUL EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT WITH DR. BEVERLY KAYE
Study after study confirms that what employees want most is support for their professional development and career growth, and that offering this to them is the single most powerful tool managers have for driving employee engagement, retention, productivity, and performance results. However, in spite of this information, career development often gets ‘sidelined’ and employees are left feeling overlooked and undervalued.
In order to achieve and sustain high levels of performance there must be a link between what an individual employee is passionate about and what the organization needs to grow its business. An effective way to insure that linkage is to hold every manager accountable for facilitating periodic professional development discussions with each of their employees, as research suggests that if an individual is positively challenged, finds work to be meaningful, and believes that their manager truly cares about their growth, their engagement will be high.
This session Dr. Beverly Kaye, sheds much needed light on specifically what managers can do – within the time-starved, priority-rich, pressure-cooker environment – to support employees’ careers. And it comes down to this: engage in short, ongoing conversations with employees about their career options, needs, and passions.
Dr. Beverly Kaye, Founder of Career Systems International, was named the 2010 recipient of the Distinguished Contribution to Workplace Learning and Performance Award by ASTD. Bev is recognized for her groundbreaking body of work and the significant impact she has had on learning and performance in the workplace. Bev is the author of Up Is Not The Only Way and co-author of Love 'Em or Lose 'Em: Getting Good People to Stay the Wall Street Journal best-selling book, as well as Love It Don’t Leave It. Her firm, Career Systems International, works with the Fortune 500™ and continues to invent, systems and strategies in development, engagement & retention. Her most recent book, Help Them Grow or Watch Them Go was released in 2012.

AUG 21, 2013 - ONLINE MEETUP: HR: IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BUSINESS
Many HR professionals would argue that the mission of HR is to create the conditions to improve employee satisfaction or engagement; however, no amount of effort on this count is worthwhile if the business context is flawed.
The opportunity and primary mission of HR is to improve the performance of our employers’ business – and to ensure that the resulting benefits of business success accrue to all.
This philosophy requires that HR employees become actively involved in understanding their employers’ business – how it operates – how the business competes and with whom – how each part of the organization inter-relates with others to produce competitive advantage – and where are the high leverage opportunities for competitive improvement.
In this one-hour webinar facilitated by Skyline Group's Milo Sindell, Eddie Sweeney will:
1. Share his thoughts and experience in pursuing this approach to HR Management
2. Provide insight for how to apply this approach in your own company
3. Engage in discussion with the audience on examples of where this approach can make a key difference
Eddie Sweeney is an accomplished Human Resource executive with over thirty years of experience in both publicly traded and privately held companies. He served as Senior VP of Human Resource for National Semiconductor Corporation until the successful completion of the sale of the company to Texas Instruments Inc. Eddie now provides executive coaching and HR/Organization Development consulting services to clients in the San Francisco bay area.
